Is it legal for a mortgage company in touch with your naighbors when you are behind on your payments?

My mortgage company has contact my neighbor of my being late on my payments because they were able to contact me.

No, if the company was the mortgage lender real and not a collection agent! But – If the mortgage company is nothing but a collection agent of any other entity, then it would be illegal under the Federal Fair Debt Practice Act of l997 and could only advise their neighbors that they would like to contact you – no reference to any debt you had, good luck!
